Regarded as one of the greatest singers of all time, no singer alive has had as much effect on me as "The Queen of Soul,  Aretha Franklin". The Queen of Soul was my mother’s favorite singer and I grew up with her voice always being played in our home. Even now when I’m working on music  The Queen of Soul is there with me.

The Queen's powerhouse voice was a perfect blend of gospel and blues and she was a game changer in the Music Industry a strong-willed independent thinker, with a voice unlike any other that firmly solidified her place in our history books very early on in her career. Her talents did not just stop at her mind and her voice. A very gifted pianist who loved sitting down to express herself through the ivories.

The Queen of Soul was the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, she has  influenced musicians of all walks of life long before that—and will continue to do so for a long time to come. Her legendary career broke records for female artists on the Billboard charts, winning 18 Grammy Awards and 2 Honorary Grammys. The Queen also was awarded America's highest honor the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005.

I've had the opportunity to meet her on several occasions, but the most compelling was the first time in 2000 at her book launch in New York City. The Queen was not taking photographs that day but, she took one with me and stated “How could I not take a picture with a fine man like you”. It was magical, and at my church, The Riverside Church in New York City at the Funeral of  Luther Vandross, I was assigned to be her host that day. The Queen was so gracious and ethereal. Her legacy and memory will always be a part of my heart and journey. The Queen of Soul will be dearly missed. We know the Queen is being welcomed and given the microphone, with open arms at the heavenly jam session now taking place up above.

Long live the Queen is evident. There is no doubt of the incredible impact she has made both on the music industry and on popular culture during a career that spanned over half a century. The Queen will leave a massive void that cannot be filled and her legacy will live on.

" Aretha Franklin was the voice of our generation and her voice was a feminist anthem for black and all women. Black folks-love ,pain redemption and vulnerability, she sang the secular and the sacred -with a voice that touched our souls-she exemplified the soul of Black folks and transcended it"....Taniquil Jones 2018

All Hail The Queen.
